The Vape Debate – E-Cigarettes vs. Tobacco Cigarettes

As anti-vapers continue to wage a wrongful war against e-cigarettes, let’s take a look at some of the facts regarding e-cigarettes versus tobacco cigarettes.

The tobacco epidemic is a huge public health threat, killing more than eight million people a year around the world. All forms of tobacco are harmful and there is no safe level of exposure to it.

There is no question that vaping nicotine is safer than getting your nicotine hit from tobacco cigarettes. Research has proven this fact. The harm from cigarettes comes from the smoke produced by burning tobacco and the residue of tar it leaves in your body, damaging your airways and causing lung disease and cancer.

Anti-tobacco activists equate vaping with regular tobacco smoking, perhaps because they don’t want to see the hated tobacco companies stay in business. In response to declining smoking prevalence, major tobacco companies, like Philip Morris and British American Tobacco, have diversified their product lines to include alternative nicotine products.

Contrary to what anti-vapers argue, e-cigarettes are an effective tool tobacco smokers can use to quit smoking for good. Vaping products contain varying nicotine levels. To help smokers on their quit journey, they are encouraged to stage down, eventually moving to a ‘flavour’ only pod.

There is little evidence that vaping is hazardous. In fact, it is estimated that e-cigarettes are 95 per cent less harmful than tobacco cigarettes. The vaping-related illnesses making headlines around the world do not actually implicate standard vaping. Rather, evidence suggests the use of illegal liquids containing THC, the active ingredient in cannabis, is to blame.

The positive effects of switching from tobacco cigarettes to vaping start immediately. Within just eight hours after you smoke your last tobacco cigarette, the amount of oxygen in your blood will return to normal levels, because, unlike tobacco cigarettes, the vapour produced by e-cigarettes doesn’t contain any carbon monoxide.

After 48 hours of quitting tobacco cigarettes, your sense of taste and smell will improve, meaning you’ll enjoy your favourite food and drink even more. You’ll also notice fragrances you were previously missing out on.

If you continue to steer clear of tobacco cigarettes and vape instead, you will notice that wheezing, coughing and shallow breathing will gradually reduce and go away altogether over the next three to nine months. Vaping allows your lung function to improve and the longer you keep away from tobacco cigarettes, the more you will notice your health improving. Your body (and your bank account!) will thank you for quitting and so will the people around you who are no longer exposed to your second-hand smoke.
